Michigan in Fall, October 2003

It's been five years since we enjoyed a Michigan fall. . . and this one seems to have been worth the wait.

The weather over the weekend was sunny and crisp, perfect for being outdoors. And since we were hosting Sarah's parent who were looking to get out of the city it was a perfect combination.

On Saturday we headed out to a Grand Rapids autumn institution, Robinette's Apple Haus. Located just outside of town Robinette's has an orchard and in the fall is crowded with people going on hay rides, eating candy apples and sipping cider, and of course picking up apples.

So we joined in on the fall activities and had a great time. We walked around the orchard, sampled the crop in the shop, and brought home some delicious, crispy apples.

Being in Michigan has also made it a lot easier to see family regularly. Last weekend we headed to Sarnia, Canada (about 3 hours from Grand Rapids) just for the day. Something we didn't do much when we lived in Japan!!

Dan's extended family was having a family party and so it was a nice chance to see a lot of aunts, uncles, cousins, and a grandma, all at one time.
