October 22, 2001 - Fall In Hondo

Fall is a wonderful time. After the heat of the summer things cool off and there are signs everywhere that things are continuing as they should in a cycle of seasons. This week we took a walk and took a few pictures of some of the natural signs of fall in Hondo.

In Japan there is beautiful flower that signals the turn of summer to fall. Everyone here has been asking me if we have this flower in the States or Canada. Does anyone recognize it? Around here it is called Cosumosu. They come in a rainbow of color and are just the so bright you can't help noticing them everywhere you go.

While a student who suffers from allergies told me that these are truly troublesome plants, this golden weed looks majestic against the akibare (clear fall sky) of Hondo.

At this time of the year this fruit can be seen everywhere. I find it amazing how I can not distinguish between types of trees hardly at all until fruit or flowers bloom. Now, one might think this is one of the only types of trees in Hondo. Bright orange persimmons seem to be hanging on every tree. They really make it seem like fall and are delicious to boot.
