| Welcome to Summer in Muskegon!
What a beautiful season! The weather is warm (never unpleasantly so, on
account of the lake) and the skies are blue and sunny. The nights are
endless. The sunsets into the lake, spectacular.
Mom and Dad Rinsema were out for the weekend. We went blueberry picking
with them (this part of Michigan, with its sandy soil and moderate temps,
grows massive quanities of deliciously voluptuous blueberries). We ended
up with mountains of the little blue balls, which are now drying on several
towels on our kitchen floor, requiring us to perform extreme sport manuevers
when we need a glass of water. We've made two blueberry pies already and
planning on making a third for get together we have tomorrow night. Needless
to say, we have had blue tongues and teeth for the past two days and are
speculating this to be a permanent condition for the months of July and
August, and quite possibly September. But YUMMY! We are enjoying them!
We had a grand ol' time picking, eating, and occasionally lobbing blueberries
at each other across the rows. Of course, my dad never knows where to
stop the shenanigans. He took it from the funny—lobbing blueberries
and watching them bounce off the head of your target—to the disgusting—casually
walking past one of us unsuspecting pickers, pulling at the waist band
of our pants, and dropping a few blue treats. At this point, we decided
it was time to go. Don't know if it was the hot sun or the cumulative
effect of all that pesticide which covered the countless blue balls we
popped into our mouths between picks, but by the end all of us were quite
giddy.
So that is life in Michigan right now. Pleasant, wholesome times steeped
in family values.
