| It's been a few years since we left
Japan but a few people still remember us. We had the pleasure of welcoming our
friends Ichi and Asami to our current home last week. Ichi and Asami were Sarah's
host family when we first arrived in Japan and we were good friends with them the
entire time we lived there. They often invited us over for dinner and never failed
invite friends and family who made it to Japan to their house for a visit, dinner,
and of course, beer.
It was a great opportunity to catch up with on the happenings in each other's lives
since we had left and to hear the latest news about the town and high schools we used
to work at.
We split their visit between time in Chicago, with Sarah's parents, and Muskegon. It was
a nice contrast between American big city and smaller town life. Some of the highlights
of the week included blueberry picking, the beach at Pere Marquette, a Japanese breakfast,
the Museum of Science and Industry in Chicago, the Air and Water Show in Chicago, and an
interesting adventure in American driving rules on a trip to Walmart featuring Ichi and Asami
behind the wheel.
The week went too quickly and we were sad to see them leave for Boston on the next leg of their trip.
